Taking inspiration from the principles of Zen Garden Style, we have developed a design that highly celebrates the hardscape elements and creates a great impact on the minimal soft scape elements added to it.

The project came with its unique constraints and challenges that transformed into the building blocks of the result that we see today. This Small pocket of landscape space has an immense essence as this is the first impression that the house gives out.

The project was taken up when the very entrance of the home consisted of unorganised, ill-maintained and unplanned soft scape. Through their experience, the clients had a clear understanding that they needed a design that gives a great welcoming expression with an unwavering elemental structure that stays for a long while.

The client’s requirement has kindled the idea of using hardscape elements at large instead of regular soft scape. With this, the approach of a Zen model has been adapted to satisfy both the practical and ideological requirements.

Zen landscapes, by definition, is a minimalist dry landscape composed of natural elements like rock, gravel, sand and wood, with very few plants and no water.

Taking inspiration from the principles of Zen Garden Style, we have developed a design that highly celebrates the hardscape elements and creates a great impact on the minimal soft scape elements added to it. The textured stones, hardy shrubs, seasoned wood, coloured pebbles and the stone sculpture tend to compose the ideal welcoming design for the place. The elements and design are developed to complement the surrounding architectural and landscape attributes while having a great impact on them simultaneously. The lava stone background with dwarf temple tree in the landscape pocket was included in the design inspiration which has resulted in complementing material & colour choice.

The Zen principles and the borrowed landscape has been the backbone of the design expression “FLOW OF LIFE”. The salwood logs, hardy plants and rocks along with the statue are all part of the design expression while their placement in site is also a physical description of the flow of life from mountains to the man made civilizations.

Any home can benefit from the lovely and sustainable addition of dry landscapes. It is feasible to construct environmentally friendly and low-maintenance spaces by utilising simple design techniques and materials, and ‘Pravah’ is an ode to the idea.
