Lilt is an interior design project for an office space located in the city of Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The brief was to design a space that gives positive, healthy and relaxing vibes in the office with a storyline to the viewers that keep them pleasantly alert. The place is dedicated to the harmony between nature and humankind and it is achieved using all eco- friendly materials and natural elements.

The corner mural that one sees at the entrance, was to give an idea of openness, to bring about the illusion that the corner is not binding, it is infinite. It was made in a similar manner with mud murals and further accents were added on with the help of red mud. A light within the mural resembles an open window further adding to the idea of openness. The electrical wires that ran through the span of this wall was also cleverly hidden within the contour of the mural.

The sofa-seating at the reception is made entirely of eco-friendly materials and yet , is a sturdy and aesthetic furniture piece. The framework comprises repurposed rebars and an abandoned window frame welded together and affixed on one side into the wall. Over this, a layer of bamboo splits was tied and covered with gunny bags. For the support, reused plastic bottles that were filled with mud and progressively varied in size were used to create the angular support. The entire seating was then covered with a mud and straw plaster and further embellished with a mosaic of broken tiles.

The concept wall that spans the length of the office features an abstract mural of a banyan tree composed majorly of mud, straw and rope. The interweaving branches of the tree made of mud and rope, combined with the endearing little figurines painted on makes for a very attractive and engaging design. Another practical feature of this wall is the hanging jute ropes from the branches of the tree mimicking the prop roots that allows for notes or important messages to be clipped on them.

Lilt is an exemplary specimen of how sustainability and low cost design meets in an interior design project.
